Advice may be good one month or year but not the next

Just because there’s a perfect ratio of nutrients in something one time, it may not remain the same. Your body’s preferences, as well as nature and the composition of things change over time. You can either use your gut feel for things, taste buds, and for nutrients – better yet, a blood test works wonders to identify new changes and potential issues.

Fill up on non-Foods

As you know, a big focus of this site is to remind people that enjoyment life is not just about food.

But if you’re like me, transitioning sucks.. There is a lull, similar to Seasonal Affective Disorder. A shift, if you will, between the old high coming down and opening up to a new period.

What are some non-foods?

Fitness, Family time, Creative expression, Selfless acts, Feasting with your eyes (Visual stimulation)

Hell, let your emotions loose in private, and have a breakdown if you need.. It may even help you. Last year I’ve rediscovered my own love for appointments and technology and how it helps me do more in life (as long as I set aside the schedule some days and go on intuition. Sometimes others need more help than someone else 🙂 )

Don’t overdo, do an appropriate amount

In eating pretty big yesterday (consumed nearly 4000 calories, and I have a BMR of about 1600 cals with 800 cals of fun activity), and this morn, I am fasting with intent to digest what I ate and to re-balance my body, mind, and soul. The desire to forego food doesn’t come from a restrictive or punishment mindset in this instance; I enjoy being nourished, fulfilled, fit, having muscles, and low body fat as well. It’s great, isn’t it?

I feel good that I’ve given my stomach time to digest all of yesterday’s meals and emotions. It’s also nice the to-do list is done or at least divvied up into the next few days/weeks/months, and have a fantastic weekend planned with my wife.

So in summary, for me life is more enjoyable when not overtaxing ourselves (with food, recreation, home chores, or IT tasks). Could you benefit as well?  Have a good weekend!

Oversaturation and stimulation

We all have a threshold for experiences in life and sometimes we get unaware that the limit is being reached, broken, and end up abusing ourselves without knowing it.

I myself have done it with various things: food, sleep, work, fitness, and relaxation.

It’s important to spend time for yourself and focus on things that matter to you outside of your, well, causes and career, call them?

If you’re a workaholic or over-thinker like me, do something fun and pointless for yourself. Watch a movie that won’t make you any smarter, get you any closer to your health or fitness goals, or make you a better family and community member.

Take some time to relax and just chill out 😀

That’s all for now; oh, and as always, make sure that the advice is what is taking you in the direction you wish to go for the near future

Focus on Whole Food/Cleaning eating, but always have choice

Hi all. I again wanted to share with you the message of why I made this blog/site. Healthy eating should always be about choice and happiness. If you want to eat something borderline unhealthy for you, mull it over and if you still do truly want that, go for it, and get your satisfaction, but know your limits too, right? 🙂

How I succeeded in my weight loss was always holding the full belief tat I can most definitely eat whatever I want, I just choose not to do it.

Examples of when I’ve fulfilled a craving in a happy way are when: I’d had multiple servings of blue corn chips (mmm), having 4 bananas for a small meal, or having a decent amount of meat.

<Rambling>I’m a recovering vegetarian some moments, I do feel most comfortable when it’s humanely raised meat though. Plus, I can also still respect the aspects of vegetarianism and not killing, but that’s changed for me. These days I’m a deer hunter too, and I send a blessing to the deer before and after I shoot. I don’t mean it harm, yet just doing it as a sustainable eating practice mainly.</Rambling>

Ok, enough of the rambling, but you know what I was getting at with this post, right? It’s your choice in life to eat certain ways and also do your best not to overnourish either (because it’s when we give the body the right amount of food and life experiences that it can truly thrive).

Until next time!

Camping – Health your way

Last weekend I went camping with my wife again, for our first time this year. We ended up with a pretty fun and successful trip. Not much went 100% according to plan, as hard as I tried 😉 the bikes did not get to come along, but that was ok. Most exciting and unplanned is that my wife and I had a 9 mile hike one day. It’s great to be active!

For food, we had a mixture of granola bars, trail-mix, lettuce, kale, carrots, potatoes, peas, two mangoes, red bananas, watermelon, hard-grain bread, and some organic animal products such as hard-boiled eggs, venison, turkey dogs, milk. My wife had a few pieces of lettuce, and I had a small bit of kale and lettuce, which was awesome to not have to eat as much anymore. If you are trying to lose weight, it is advisable to eat more greens though.

We also went out to eat twice this time at some “healthier” restaurants in the area.

It just brings me back to what this site is all about – attaining and keeping health and wellness while having large freedom in life (to a point) to live healthfully and happy at the same time. In the past I would have wanted to bring way more fruit along, but now my more sustainable mindset and tastebuds changed to appreciate more variety of foods, particularly denser ones that satiate longer and require less resources outside of the tropics.

I know I’m a hypocrite for still buying tropical foods, but hey, I like the best of both worlds. A little bit of everything at times (exceptions to personally intolerable foods/activity do apply).

Anyways, I hope everyone else has a fabulous time during their weekends/vacations, and in normal work-life as well.

Organize your fridge for maximum produce and perishable use

Put your fruits and vegetables on the forefront. Make them the first thing you see when you open the fridge, and put the preserved, rich foods in the back so they don’t pop out at you as quick.

In our fridge, I put the kale in the front, and also some fruits that are ready in front. If there’s something super sweet, I put that in the middle if it’s time sensitive, and in the back if it’s not at all, such as a rare case that we have soda in our fridge 😦

Try out Kale – it’s an intensely versatile protein powered food

I included this in my diet in large amounts during my own weight loss journey, not only to aid in my body’s transformation, but also for less environmental impact (it was from my own garden, and also takes less resources to grow as compared to an animal), and has a high amount of nutrition to it as well.

Not that you need to exclude meat entirely or say, never eat it again, but if you’re doing something like meatless Mondays or just want to have a salad for dinner or a green smoothie, try out Kale… even a piece. You might like it, or at least the effects it has on your body – to the point where you fall in love with it.

Look for more detailed info that a farmer’s market in FL mentions 🙂
