Seem to eat more than you want and want to lose weight?

This trick may be necessary for you if you were raised with the habit and moral of “Finish your plate”

Well, a strategy that is pretty simple is just to take smaller helpings each time (1/8-1/2 of a serving) and walk back to the kitchen for each subsequent amount.
